The Boney bream is a bit of a weird looking creation designed primarily for impoundment barra. The boney bream is named after the predominant food source in the dams and is an ideal size to attract big barra. This lure casts like a bullet and wobbles back like a lost baitfish on a straight retrieve. The boney floats at rest and works down a couple of feet on the retrieve.
Designed to fish over shallow weedy areas this lure is very easy to use and the fish generally belt it hard. Being a bibless lure the boney is easy for the fish to suck in and this results in a good hook up rate. The boney also fishes well if it is slowly twitched back just in the surface film.
Some cunning anglers are fitting the boney bream with a larger treble hook under the belly and using it as a suspending lure. Jason Wilhelm caught a 1.26 M barra after thinking up this method and he has really wacked a heap of fish by twitching the slowly sinking lure in the faces of the shut down barra. Another plus for the boney bream is that we designed it from scratch to handle really big tough fish.
Jason has retired one lure that has caught multiple barra over a metre and quite a few others – this lure is scarred and scratched and chipped but still in good fishing order. Strong attachment points and owner hardware do the job on what could be the fish of a lifetime. You can see the retired lure hanging out of the mouth of a giant barra on an up-coming front cover of Freshwater fishing.

The stiffy Boney Bream is proving to be a real go-to lure for impoundment Barra. It's certainly a very versatile hard body, whether you're slow rolling the lure over weed beds and drop offs, or customizing it to suspend or slowly sink : Jason Wilhelm, Barra Fishing Guide.
It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza.
