I guess you could say that our STIFFY LURES project is a logical progression from our range of successful soft plastic lures. Soft plastic lures are here to stay for a variety of reasons but hard bodied lures didn't ever go away – they caught fish before the first soft plastic lures were invented in the early fifties and they will continue to catch fish as long as there are fish and anglers to chase them.

Maybe the hard body project was just one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time. I imagine taking drugs, walking in quicksand, or borrowing money from the mob all probably seem alright until you get started.

There is even a thought out there that lure makers in general are a bit crazy because of the paint and glue they use. I disagree with this theory because I actually think you have to be mad before you start – it is just a pre requisite for the job. I feel well qualified!

Anyway, I love using hard bodies and I got sucked into designing a range of them for the fish I like to catch. I would love to tell you that it has been easy but the truth is I have never gone down so many blind alleys, wasted so much money on various paints, tools and junk that didn't work, or used so many swear words to vent my frustrations. I also threw quite a few things – some of which were both valuable and not quite as strong as I thought they might have been.

The good news is that I have learned a few things along the way and the STIFFY LURE stable now has five lures in it that are genuine reliable fish catchers and there are more in the pipeline.
